The Open University has provided on the web over 5,000 hours of study
material FREE. All you have to do is to go to the website, browse and then
register (it's easy as well as free) and study a unit of your choice. The
learning material is arranged in units which take from 4 to 50 hours to study.
There are currently over 400 units, (the number is increasing all the time),
arranged in 13 topic areas ranging from Arts and History to Business
Management, Science and Nature. It is good quality learning material taken from
OU courses from Introductory to Masters level. It can be used for individual
study or a group could agree to use material as the basis for study and
discussion, either in single units or a series of units. In Lab Space you can
modify the units to suit your needs. When you register with OpenLearn add the
tag "U3A member" to your list of interests on your profile so that U3A members
can more easily find each other on the OpenLearn site.

Volunteers wanted
We would like to draw everyone's attention
to the fact that volunteers are needed to help in preparing the room for our
coffee mornings held every Tuesday at the Friends' Meeting House in the High
Street and for clearing it up before we leave. Reg Whittaker and Noel Feltwell
have been doing all the work connected with this for many years, and they have
recently been joined once a month by Jack Luxon. However, more volunteers are
needed for the other Tuesdays and for holiday relief.
.
Anyone who feels able to help and thus give
something back to our U3A is requested to confirm this by sending an e-mail to
webmaster@u3aweston.org.uk so that the information can be passed to the
appropriate quarter.

Make the most of U3A
As you have been able to find our web site you should have no
difficulty in finding that of U3A's National Office.
We have provided a
quick way of going there on our Useful Links page which you will see on the
left.
Although you do not have to do so you will be able to access much more material if you register with the site. This only involves providing your e-mail address and a password of your choice. Just fill in the boxes on the home page.
If you are not already a subscriber and you do register you can see the latest issue of Sources, U3A's educational journal and also back issues. These can be downloaded and printed out. You can also become a subscriber to these very informative aids. Look for U3A publications in the members' area.
There is also a National Story Telling Network. If anyone in U3A
Weston would like to set up such a group we would be delighted. Anyone doing so
could no doubt receive help and ideas from this
source.
